John Knowles was an American novelist whose career was mainly defined by his wonderful novel, “A Separate Peace”. John Knowles wasn’t just a one hit wonder though, he also wrote other highly acclaimed novels such as, “Peace Breaks Out” and “Vein of Riches”.
John Knowles was born in Fairmont, West Virginia in 1926. He studied at extremely prestigious schools such as Phillips Exeter Academy and Yale University. He didn’t write “A Separate Peace” until he was 33 in 1959. It went on to be published in 1960. This novel was very popular, it sold over eight million copies and was mad into a movie by Paramount Pictures in 1972. John Knowles never really minded having his entire career rest upon a single book. “It’s paid the bills for 30 years,” He said. Sadly, John Knowles passed away in 2001 at a ripe age of 75. Although he only had one well-known book he had a phenomenal career.
