Theme Development

In The beginning of the novel involves Gene in an awkward situation trying to development establishment in the situation in the world. He is attempting to find his identity. This problem is unfortunately solved by Gene co-identifying himself with Phineas, Sadly this tends  to be the solution to this problem in the real world.
The previous result of the solution is dependency between one another. Light dependency can be  a good thing, but extreme dependency  can be crippling. Gene and Phineas don't even realize it. For example, after the fall Gene wears Finny's clothes. Another, after Phineas' return Phineas ha s Gene play sports because he can no longer participate.
Towards the end Phineas sadly passes away. Finny's death comes with an eye opening realization to Gene which I feel contains the main  theme of the story. Gene discovers Phineas did not carry the antagonistic plague the rest of the world does. Which to me presents the story's main theme, "The earth plagued with antagonism and envy, and although most carry this some are immune".
